Seasonal Allergies Got You Down?
For many, springtime means sneezing and sniffling due to seasonal allergies. While over-the-counter medications may help you breathe a bit easier this time of year, you might want to consider adding local honey to your daily routine too.
The theory of consuming local honey to reduce allergy symptoms is based on immunotherapy. Research shows that small doses of the thing you're allergic to can make you less sensitive to it, which is the reasoning behind allergy shots. So, by consuming honey that is local to you, you might consume small amounts of pollen (the kind that is specific to your area) which could potentially, over time, reduce your sensitivity to local pollens.
Now, hear me out. Local honey isn’t a cure-all for your allergies, however, research shows that processed honey can help soothe your sore throat and the antioxidants in honey may help your body fight viruses.
One of my favorite ways to enjoy honey is in a cup of warm water with fresh lemon and a dash of cinnamon. Or, you can add it to herbal teas as a sweetener.
I encourage you to try adding local honey to your day this time of year. Not only may your allergies improve, but you'll also be supporting local farmers, too. It's a win-win!
